The nine-year Personal Year cycle
How to calculate your Personal Year, Month and Day, and how to plan with the rhythm of the nine-year cycle.
If your core numbers describe who you are, the Personal Year describes the season you are in. Numerology sees life as moving in repeating nine-year cycles, each year carrying a distinct theme. Knowing where you are in the cycle can help you decide when to push forward and when to rest.
How to calculate it
Reduce your birth day, your birth month and the current calendar year separately to single digits, then add them and reduce to 1–9. Master numbers are not kept for the Personal Year.
Example: born 26 January, year 2026 → day 2 + 6 = 8, month 1, year 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 → 1. Total 8 + 1 + 1 = 10 → 1.
- Personal Month = Personal Year + calendar month, reduced.
- Personal Day = Personal Month + calendar day, reduced.
Most numerologists treat the Personal Year as beginning on 1 January; some prefer to start it on your birthday. Bavanga uses the calendar year, and you may notice the new energy creeping in from around your birthday or the autumn before.
The nine seasons
- Year 1 — Planting: new beginnings, independence, courage. Start things.
- Year 2 — Germination: patience, partnerships, details. Let things take root.
- Year 3 — Sprouting: creativity, social life, expression. Share and enjoy.
- Year 4 — Building: work, discipline, foundations. Put in the effort.
- Year 5 — Turning point: change, travel, freedom. Adapt and explore.
- Year 6 — Nurturing: home, family, responsibility, love. Care and commit.
- Year 7 — Reflection: study, solitude, spirituality. Go inward.
- Year 8 — Harvest: career, money, recognition. Claim results.
- Year 9 — Clearing: completion, release, compassion. Let go and prepare.
Planning with the cycle
Matching actions to the season makes life feel smoother:
- Launching a business is strongly supported in a year 1, harder in a year 9.
- Year 4 suits buying property, budgeting, or tackling a demanding qualification.
- Year 5 is ideal for travel or relocation, but not for signing long rigid contracts without care.
- Year 6 is often linked to marriage, children and home renovation.
- Year 7 suits higher education, research, retreats and health check-ups.
- Year 8 is the moment to ask for promotions or make major financial moves.
- Year 9 suits finishing projects, decluttering and ending what no longer serves.
None of this forbids anything. A wedding in a year 5 or a new job in a year 9 can be wonderful. The cycle simply suggests what kind of energy you will be swimming with.
Personal months and days
Within each year, the months create smaller waves. A Personal Month 1 inside a Personal Year 7 might bring a brief burst of initiative in an otherwise reflective year. Personal Days are best used lightly, as a daily mood: a number 4 day suits paperwork, a 3 day suits a party, a 7 day suits quiet reading.
Universal year
The world as a whole also has a number: add the digits of the calendar year. 2026 is a universal 1 year (2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 → 1), a collective season of new starts. Your Personal Year shows how that universal energy meets your own chart.
A reflective exercise
Look back at the last nine years and write down your Personal Year for each. Many people are surprised to see that major moves happened in 1 or 5 years, relationships deepened in 2 or 6 years, and important endings came in 9 years. Whether you see it as coincidence or rhythm, this exercise often brings fresh perspective on your own story.
Baba Vanga's advice for every year is the same: do not fight the season you are in — learn what it is teaching.
